Microsoft Under Investigation by Italy for Antitrust Issues Related to Microsoft 365 Price Increase
On Friday, June 26, Italy’s antitrust authority, known as the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato – AGCM), announced that it has initiated an investigation into Microsoft regarding alleged unfair commercial practices tied to the price increase of its “Microsoft 365” subscription.

The regulator indicated that the company responsible for Windows did not sufficiently inform consumers about the integration of artificial intelligence tools Copilot and Designer into the Microsoft 365 service.

Consumers were transitioned to a more costly subscription plan unless they opted out, and they reportedly did not receive adequate information to make informed decisions about renewing their contracts, the regulator noted in its statement.

The authority remarked that the tech giant’s conduct could be deemed aggressive as it significantly restricted consumers’ freedom of choice.

Microsoft has not responded immediately for comment.
