Jio Platforms Leads India in Global Patent Applications for FY25: Government Report

Jio Platforms Limited, the technology and digital arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has established itself as the leading global creator of intellectual property (IP) in India for the fiscal year 2024-25, as the corporate powerhouse aims to transform all its business sectors into AI-native entities.

Leading the charge, Jio Platforms secured 1,037 international patents, significantly surpassing other Indian firms such as TVS Motor with 238 patents, followed by CSIR (70), IIT Madras (44), and Ola Electric Mobility (31), according to an annual report from the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks.

The number of international patent applications submitted by Jio alone exceeds the combined total of those ranked from second to tenth. Including domestic patents, the overall count rises to 1,654.

The company’s investment in Research and Development (R&D) has also grown by 14.9%, reaching 4,185 crore in FY25.

This surge in patent filings embodies Reliance’s ambition to evolve into a deeptech corporation with robust manufacturing capabilities, a vision articulated by RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2025.

During the AGM, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL), stated, “We have achieved this with a technology stack that is entirely designed, developed, and deployed in India, crafted by Jio’s own engineers. From building our proprietary 5G Core to launching the fastest 5G services, and now introducing our global-first home connect technology, we’ve firmly established ourselves as a Deep-Tech company.”

As noted in the National IP Award, Jio has submitted over 4,000 global applications in telecom, AI, and digital technologies over the past three years.
