Ebrahim Azizi, the chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, expressed in a post on X that countries aligning with Washington might encounter “significant repercussions.”
“The Strait of Hormuz is an essential lifeline; do not jeopardize it by closing it on yourselves FOREVER,” he stated in his X post.
We caution governments, including small states like Bahrain, that supporting the U.S.-backed resolution will lead to severe consequences.

These comments followed the US’s modification of a UN Security Council resolution demanding Iran cease its attacks, mining activities, and disruptions to shipping in the crucial waterway.
According to Reuters, Bahrain is among the nations supporting the draft resolution.
The resolution urges Iran to halt threats to commercial shipping and provide the locations of sea mines in the Strait, through which approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil travels.
The revision eliminated a clause referencing Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which could have led to actions ranging from sanctions to military intervention.
Nevertheless, the revised draft retains strong language against Iran, including a warning that the council might consider “effective measures,” such as sanctions, if Tehran fails to comply.
The draft also reaffirms the rights of member states to defend their vessels from attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
