IndiGo Crisis: SpiceJet Steps In with 30 Emergency Flights from Delhi and Mumbai
SpiceJet has swiftly acted to alleviate the strain on India’s aviation network by launching nearly 30 extra flights from Delhi and Mumbai, in light of the significant disruption caused by IndiGo’s ongoing operational issues. With countless passengers seeking alternatives, the Gurugram-based low-cost airline has stepped in to offer essential capacity on two of the nation’s busiest routes.

The airline revealed that 15 additional flights would run from Delhi and 14 from Mumbai, servicing a selection of high-demand domestic routes as well as certain international destinations.

Among the new international flights are evening departures to Dubai and a late-night route from Delhi to Bangkok. These additions will help accommodate the influx of displaced passengers struggling to find available seats due to extensive cancellations.

IndiGo’s challenges have stemmed from a combination of staffing shortages and operational hurdles, resulting in hundreds of cancelations nationwide.

Major hubs like Delhi and Mumbai are facing overcrowding, extended queues, and significant frustration among travelers. This turmoil has also impacted airfares, with round-trip ticket prices rising to uncommonly high rates.

SpiceJet is gearing up for a more extensive ramp-up ahead of the winter travel season. The airline is reportedly incorporating several leased aircraft into its fleet, which will enhance its daily operational capacity.

Meanwhile, industry experts have previously indicated that SpiceJet’s expansion may provide the airline an opportunity to capture additional market share and strengthen its position during this disruptive period. The additional flights are essential for travelers, especially with the festive season on the horizon and air travel anticipated to surge.

However, all airlines have advised passengers to verify schedules for updates on flight timings. In light of the uncertainty around IndiGo’s operations, SpiceJet’s proactive response is poised to offer temporary relief to travelers.
