Indigenous Ship Repair Grows Stronger as SMPK-CSL Joint Venture Reports ₹5.94 Crore Profit

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, and Cochin Shipyard Ltd on Friday, December 26, reaffirmed their collaboration to enhance India’s ship repair sector, with ₹ 5.94 crore distributed as shared profit from their joint venture.

SMPK chairman Rathendra Raman received the cheque from CSL chairman and managing director Madhu Nair during a visit to CSL’s ship repair facility in Cochin, according to a statement.

This amount signifies the profit produced by the Cochin-Kolkata Ship Repair Unit (CKSRU), a partnership between the two entities.

Raman emphasized that the profit highlights the commercial and strategic possibilities of localized ship repair facilities, demonstrating how collaboration between port authorities and shipyards can bolster the ’Make in India’ initiative.

He further mentioned that SMPK is eager to expand ship repair operations in Kolkata.
