Utilizing data from its specially curated travel segment, Zo Trips, the company noted this year was characterized less by flashy destination stats and more by a transformation in how Indian travelers prefer to explore the globe. Travelers are increasingly valuing depth over breadth, opting for extended stays, local neighborhood explorations, and experiences grounded in cultural authenticity, instead of traditional checklist tourism.
While popular international destinations such as Thailand, Japan, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and select European regions continued to attract significant interest, Zo World observed a marked change in travel patterns. Indian travelers are displaying a growing preference for intentional travel that integrates cultural immersion, culinary exploration, and adventure-based activities. This trend is particularly strong among younger and repeat travelers, who are showing enhanced confidence in exploring destinations outside the conventional tourist hotspots.

This trend comes alongside a sharp increase in outbound travel from both Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in India. Enhanced air connectivity and competitive international airfares, especially across Southeast Asia, where international flights can be more cost-effective than domestic options, have made international travel more attainable and encouraged exploration beyond standard itineraries.
Data from Zo World also revealed a rising interest in lesser-known international locales. Countries like Georgia and Azerbaijan, quieter destinations within Southeast Asia, certain areas of Central Asia, and under-the-radar European and Asian cities have become increasingly appealing. These places attract Indian travelers with their cultural offerings, picturesque landscapes, and better value compared to traditional European routes, highlighting a growing demand for authentic experiences at reasonable prices.
This shift in behavior is evident in the rapid growth of Zo Trips, which emphasizes community-focused and curated travel experiences. The platform experienced international participation growth exceeding 2,500 percent over the last two years, driven by the desire for structured yet socially engaging journeys to destinations such as Thailand, Vietnam, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Annapurna, and Bali.

According to Zo World, the quality of experiences has outstripped destination popularity as the leading factor influencing international travel decisions. Social discovery, peer recommendations, and community-driven narratives increasingly shape travel choices, while a slower pace of travel and meaningful interactions inform itineraries. Millennials and Gen Z travelers, especially solo adventurers and couples, are at the forefront of this trend, seeking journeys that blend independence with connectivity.
Looking ahead, Zo World anticipates that this discovery-first, community-centric approach will continue to influence Indian outbound travel in 2026. With improving flight connectivity and easier visa processes, the company aims to broaden Zo Trips’ international offerings across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia, alongside themed journeys focused on culture, cuisine, and adventure.
As the data indicates, while Indians may still travel to well-known regions, their approach to travel has transformed. In 2025, global exploration increasingly shifted from mere consumption to intention, immersion, and shared experiences.
