This initiative broadens the application of UPI in the UAE, extending from physical merchant payments to online travel reservations. Since 2022, UPI-enabled transactions have been facilitated at NEOPAY’s merchant network in the UAE using QR-based acceptance.
At the Top, Burj Khalifa is one of Dubai’s most frequented destinations, attracting tourists from all over the globe, including a considerable number from India. This new feature enables Indian visitors to finalize their reservations ahead of time using a payment method they commonly use in India.
This development coincides with the growing importance of digital payments in international travel. For Indian travelers, access to familiar payment methods can ease financial transactions abroad, particularly when booking attractions, experiences, and other travel services.
The collaboration also enhances the adoption of UPI in foreign markets. NIPL, the international branch of NPCI, is actively working to extend UPI acceptance worldwide, enabling Indian travelers to utilize the real-time payment system outside of India.
