India to Host Asian Senior Fencing Championships for the First Time
India will host the Asian Senior Fencing Championships for the first time, with the prestigious event planned at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from June 19-24.

Recognized as the top fencing competition in the Asia-Oceania region, these championships will be a vital qualifying event for the upcoming Asian Games and will also provide essential ranking points for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.

This event will also coincide with the 39th General Assembly of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA), marking India’s inaugural hosting of the governing body’s annual meeting.
“Hosting the Senior Asian Fencing Championships for the first time is a significant milestone that will permanently alter the course of Indian sports,” stated Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of the FCA and the Fencing Association of India (FAI).

A total of 32 nations, including leading fencing countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan, will compete in individual and team events across foil, épée, and sabre categories.

The championship will showcase several Olympic champions, including Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Long, South Korea’s Oh Sang-uk, and Japan’s Yamada Masaru.

The host nation, India, will field a robust squad of 24 fencers led by Olympian Bhavani Devi, the country’s first-ever Olympic fencer and Asian Championships medalist. She will be joined by silver medalist Karan Singh, a Paris Olympic qualifier, rising épée fencer Tanishka Khatri, and experienced sabre specialist Gisho Nidhi.

A total of 48 medals will be awarded across 12 events, evenly divided between individual and team competitions for both men and women.

The New Delhi championships will also serve as a groundbreaking event for officiating technology, acting as a global testing ground for an AI-powered Video Referral System following a recent training workshop held by the FAI.
