India to Advocate for Unified Global AI Regulations at AI Summit 2026: MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan
India aims to foster a collective global perspective on artificial intelligence governance when it hosts the upcoming AI Summit in February 2026, Union electronics and IT secretary S Krishnan noted, positioning New Delhi as a vital convenor in international technology policy dialogues.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Krishnan expressed the government’s hopes for the summit to yield meaningful results, including frameworks for knowledge sharing and alignment on AI approaches among nations. “We anticipate a wealth of knowledge documents to emerge from this initiative, and a consensus to evolve regarding the pathways for AI globally,” he stated.

India anticipates participation from over 100 nations at the summit, which is anticipated to be one of the largest international platforms for AI governance and collaboration. Krishnan highlighted that numerous global leaders and top tech executives are expected to attend, showcasing the event’s scale and ambition. “Bill Gates has confirmed his attendance,” he remarked, also noting that the CEOs of Anthropic and Adobe are likely to participate, alongside many other influential business leaders. He mentioned that several participants have tentatively confirmed, with more clarity anticipated after the holiday season.

On the political front, Krishnan indicated that the involvement of global leaders is also expected to be substantial. “We anticipate the French president will be in attendance,” he said, highlighting the level of international engagement India seeks at the summit.

The MeitY secretary noted that efforts to build consensus are already in progress through structured dialogues with partner nations. He mentioned that seven specialized working groups have been formed and have completed two rounds of meetings. “The working groups are convening… and we are actively collaborating with our counterparts from various countries,” Krishnan added, expressing optimism for “some positive outcomes” from these discussions.
