On Tuesday (June 9), Goa’s Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte conducted important meetings in the national capital with Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (Tourism & Culture) and Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu (Civil Aviation) to advance collaborative initiatives aimed at boosting Goa’s tourism potential.

The discussions focused on positioning Goa as a center for experiential and high-value tourism, particularly through the development of a “concert economy,” which emphasizes immersive, culture-rich experiences for visitors.

During his conversation with Shekhawat, the two leaders examined opportunities to harness Goa’s vibrant heritage, festivals, and spiritual sites to attract discerning tourists in search of authentic experiences. Both parties acknowledged the necessity of developing iconic and sustainable tourism infrastructure that mirrors Goa’s unique identity and cultural richness.

Throughout the meeting, they discussed the evolving significance of cultural and spiritual tourism in shaping India’s global image, with Goa seen as a crucial player in attracting foreign tourists.

In his discussion with the Civil Aviation minister, Khaunte emphasized the need to enhance Goa’s domestic and international air connectivity. He expressed concerns regarding the viability of domestic air routes and advocated for the expansion of direct international flights to Goa from key global markets.

Stressing the importance of competitive pricing, the Minister called for a reevaluation of airline fare structures to ensure a steady flow of tourists and to maintain Goa as an attractive year-round destination.

“Goa is more than just a destination; it’s a cultural sentiment. By fostering a concert economy and strengthening aviation connections, we aim to make Goa globally accessible while safeguarding its essence,” Khaunte stated. “Our discussions today underscored a mutual commitment between the Centre and the state to collaborate on creating a tourism framework that is experiential, sustainable, and globally integrated.”

The Goa delegation comprised senior officials from the Department of Tourism, including Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary (Tourism), and Shawn Mendes, Officer on Special Duty to the Minister. Both Union Ministers appreciated Goa’s proactive stance and pledged ongoing support in aligning state initiatives with national tourism and aviation strategies, as noted in a press release.
