Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) president Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with five others, has been implicated in a case concerning the death of a senior party member who was struck by his vehicle.

The police in Guntur district announced that six individuals, including Reddy, have been accused and that appropriate legal action will be initiated against them.

An elderly YSRCP member was fatally run over by Reddy’s car during a rally. Reddy faced significant criticism as videos of the incident circulated rapidly online.

The Guntur police reported that the following individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the incident –

  1. Ramana Reddy (driver)
  2. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy (Former Chief Minister)
  3. K. Nageshwar Reddy (Personal Assistant)
  4. Y.V. Subba Reddy (Former MP)
  5. Perni Nani @ Venkateswara Rao (Former MLA)
  6. Vidadala Rajini (Former Minister)

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged based on a complaint from Cheeli Lurdhu Mary, the widow of the deceased, under Section 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to deaths caused by negligence.

Subsequently, the charges were modified to 105 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 49, which addresses the punishment for abetment when the abetted act occurs without a specific penalty provision, according to Guntur police.

The police confirmed that only the former CM’s convoy and three vehicles were authorized for travel from Tadepalli to Sattenapalli during his tour.

The accident was reported when a man named Cheeli Singaiah was found injured and bleeding. He was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Upon reviewing video evidence, including CCTV and drone footage from the scene, as well as testimonies from witnesses, police determined that the deceased was found under the wheels of Reddy’s vehicle.
