Flying to or from Dubai? Everything You Need to Know About Refunds and Rescheduling
Air travel to and from Dubai and other cities in West Asia has been disrupted following the US and Israel’s unilateral declaration of war on Iran, leading to a response from Tehran that has resulted in the closure of regional airspace.

Major airlines such as IndiGo, Etihad Airways, Air India, and Emirates have issued advisories providing refunds, free rescheduling, and flexible rebooking options for affected travellers.

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has extended the suspension of certain international flights that traverse the affected airspace and is offering comprehensive flexibility and waiver benefits for passengers traveling to and from the Middle East, as reported by The Economic Times.
The airline announced a travel advisory on X (formerly Twitter), stating that passengers who booked on or before February 28, 2026, for travel until March 7, 2026, are eligible for free rescheduling or a full refund.

While not specifying particular routes, the airline mentioned that the waiver also applies to several other impacted international sectors.

“If your booking is affected, you will receive timely notifications on your registered contact details, and our teams will reach out to you directly to provide assistance and guide you through your options,” reads the IndiGo travel advisory.

The airline asserted that it has “carefully assessed the evolving regional dynamics and their potential effect on flight operations” before deciding on what it describes as the ‘most responsible’ action for safety considerations.

The temporary suspension of specific international routes through parts of West Asian airspace has been extended as part of IndiGo’s precautionary measures. The airline’s official website offers passengers the choice of a complete refund or free rescheduling.

The disruption followed the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israeli operation, which resulted in fierce retaliation from Tehran. More than 100 international flights were cancelled at Delhi IGIA amid rising tensions, with Mumbai reporting an additional 125 cancellations, according to The Times of India.

Other airlines issue travel advisories

In addition to IndiGo, several other major airlines have released travel advisories due to the ongoing conflict. Airports in the UAE, Israel, Qatar, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman have also closed their airspace.

In a travel advisory on X, Air India announced the suspension of flights to and from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar until March 2. Around 125 international flights were cancelled, with the airline indicating that flights to North America and Europe would take alternative routes with technical stops in Rome. Passengers are urged to check for updates online.

Akasa Air has also suspended flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait, and Riyadh until March 2, providing affected travellers with options for free rescheduling or full refunds. “Passengers with impacted bookings until March 7, 2026, can opt for a full refund or reschedule their travel at no extra charge,” their statement mentioned.

SpiceJet has cancelled all its flights for March 1 and March 2, 2026, between India and the UAE. Their travel advisory on X stated, “Due to the temporary closure of UAE airspace amid the current situation, all SpiceJet flights operating between India and the UAE have been cancelled until March 1, 2026.”

Travellers are advised to check the status of their flights before proceeding to the airport.

The UAE government has officially stated that it will cover all accommodation, meal, and rebooking costs for approximately 20,000 stranded passengers. This initiative, announced by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), aims to assist those affected by rescheduled or cancelled flights, as noted in a report by TOI.
