Following Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League home triumph over Everton, which ended a sequence of four games without a win, Maresca remarked that he had experienced “the worst 48 hours” of his tenure, citing a lack of backing.
However, at the end of Tuesday’s match, Maresca celebrated with supporters who chanted his name after Alejandro Garnacho scored twice and Pedro Neto added another, leading his team into the last four.
“I’m just happy; we’re going to play another semi-final, and I believe it’s what the fans deserve,” he told reporters.
“It was a fantastic moment. In times when you don’t win games, the fans can be upset, but that’s natural. Overall, the fans have consistently supported us.
“These are the types of games that make me love the players even more because it’s easy to stumble in tricky matches,” added Maresca, who chose not to expand on his remarks from the weekend.
“I didn’t speak with anyone. I didn’t discuss anything; it’s fine,” Maresca stated. “I’ve consistently said I’ve been happy since day one, so it’s not that I’m unhappy tonight.”
Chelsea, currently fourth in the Premier League and eight points behind leaders Arsenal, will next face Newcastle United on Saturday.
