The 31-year-old was filmed intoxicated after the second test in December, when England found themselves 2-0 down in the series.
“I’ve taken responsibility for my actions since then,” Duckett told the media.
“This is not behavior expected from any professional athlete. We had a break planned before the series, and if we had been winning, it likely wouldn’t have made headlines and wouldn’t have concerned anyone.
“We were having a tough time as a team, and I was struggling as an individual, so I should have avoided putting myself in that situation.”
Duckett expressed gratitude to captain Ben Stokes, coach Brendon McCullum, and managing director Rob Key for their support during this time, but admitted his performances in the Ashes were subpar.
He managed only 202 runs at an average of 20.20 and did not participate in the T20 World Cup, where England was eliminated by India in the semi-finals this month.
“I wasn’t pleased with how things went in Australia,” Duckett remarked.
“However, I’ve always been good at recognizing when I’ve erred, and I hope that moving forward, people will understand how much representing England means to me.”
Duckett, who was signed by Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore, withdrew just four days before the tournament to concentrate on his international career.
“For me, opting out of the IPL, turning down a significant sum of money, and forgoing the chance to play alongside and against some of the best players in the world to represent Notts (Nottinghamshire) is a positive step towards demonstrating the importance of playing for England,” he stated.
England will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series in June.
