Electric Water Taxi Service from Gateway of India to Navi Mumbai Airport Set to Launch Soon

Residents of Mumbai will soon be able to avoid the city’s notorious traffic, traveling from the Gateway of India to Navi Mumbai International Airport via electric water taxi in just 40 minutes.

In an effort to encourage eco-friendly urban transport, this water taxi initiative focuses on reducing road congestion and providing a cleaner, more efficient travel option between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

On Tuesday, May 3, Ports and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane conducted a review meeting and urged the Maharashtra Ports Department to expedite the preparations for launching the service.

Officials have been instructed to submit proposals and develop detailed plans for constructing necessary jetties. The minister also directed that terminal development commence in phases and that the airport authority should initiate requests for the required approvals.

During the meeting, senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary of Transport and Ports Department Sanjay Sethi, Navi Mumbai Airport Authority representative Brijesh Singhal, and Maharashtra Maritime Board’s Pradeep Badiye were in attendance.

When operational, this water taxi route will improve connectivity between Mumbai and significant destinations in Navi Mumbai, including the new international airport. This initiative supports the state’s commitment to modernizing transport systems while being mindful of environmental sustainability.

This project represents a major advancement by the state government in enhancing the water-based transport infrastructure in and around Mumbai. As road congestion rises, such sustainable alternatives could provide commuters with a more comfortable and expedited travel experience.

The water taxi service is set to benefit countless daily commuters and will also promote tourism by offering a picturesque and quick travel option. With planning and implementation now accelerated, Mumbai may soon experience a transformative change in how residents navigate the city and its expanding suburbs.
