Unlike the standard Tatkal quota, Premium Tatkal only offers confirmed tickets—there is no waiting list or RAC. If there are seats available, your ticket is confirmed immediately; once they are sold out, bookings are closed.
Another significant difference is in the ticket pricing. Premium Tatkal operates on a dynamic pricing model, meaning costs increase as more seats are reserved. Passengers who book earlier can expect to pay lower fares.
Bookings commence one day prior to the journey—at 10 am for AC classes and 11 am for non-AC and Sleeper classes. Tickets can only be purchased through the IRCTC website or mobile app and are not available at railway reservation counters.
Cancellation and refund rules
It is important for passengers to understand that Premium Tatkal tickets are generally non-refundable if cancelled by the traveller. Furthermore, concessions applicable to regular bookings, such as those for senior citizens or children, do not apply here. All passengers must pay the full dynamic fare.
Tips to increase your chances of securing a confirmed ticket
To enhance your chances of securing a Premium Tatkal ticket, prepare a Master List in your IRCTC account ahead of the booking time so passenger details can be automatically filled in. It’s also wise to maintain a strong internet connection and have fast payment options like UPI or net banking ready, as even a slight delay can result in missing a confirmed ticket.
