Congress unveils second lineup for Bengal elections, announcing 9 candidates and 1 substitute.

Bengal Elections Phase 1: 78 Nominations Submitted for 152 Seats on Opening Day
The Congress revealed its second batch of nine candidates and one replacement for the West Bengal Assembly elections on Wednesday, raising the total number of candidates announced by the party to 293.

Going solo in the race for the 294-member Assembly, the Congress has replaced Sanjay Sarkar with Prem Chowdhury for the Gazole (SC) constituency.

The party has nominated Mrinmoy Sarkar for Alipurduars, Guddi Riaz for Islampur, Md. Mahatab for Farakka, Monoj Chakraborty for Sagardighi, Mohd. Saharuddin Seikh for Beldanga, Quazi Abdur Rahim for Baduria, Angshuman Roy for Ashoknagar, Subhankar Sarkar for Sreerampur, and Pranab Kumar Mahapatra for Patashpur.
Rahim, a sitting MLA from Baduria, recently joined the Congress after being denied a ticket from the TMC.

Previously, on Sunday, the Congress had announced a total of 284 candidates in a single announcement.

The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled for two phases on April 23 and 29, with votes set to be counted on May 4.
