Congress MLA Claims D K Shivakumar Will be Karnataka's Chief Minister in Early January
Karnataka Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain reiterated on Monday that Deputy CM D K Shivakumar is set to become the Chief Minister of the state in early January.

The Ramanagara legislator, a supporter of Shivakumar, previously indicated that January 6 or 9 could be the date for the transition of power.

The ongoing power struggle within the ruling party has escalated amid rumors regarding a potential change in the chief minister, especially after the Congress government marked the halfway point of its five-year term on November 20.
These speculations gained momentum from the “power-sharing” agreement made between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in 2023.
“There are individuals who can accurately forecast rains and calamities. Based on insights from such people, I mentioned the dates January 6 or 9. We will see; I have faith in God,” stated Iqbal Hussain.

He told reporters, “There is a 200% certainty that Shivakumar will take charge on either January 6 or 9.”

When asked if the high command had given its approval, the MLA replied, “There is clarity…didn’t our leader (Shivakumar) confirm the agreement? He would only confirm it if there is an agreement; otherwise, he would not have mentioned it.”

In light of the leadership discussions, Siddaramaiah asserted in the Legislative Assembly on December 19 that he would remain in his position. He indicated that the Congress high command was “in my favour” and stated that no decision had been made regarding his leadership lasting only two-and-a-half years.

In response, Shivakumar mentioned that he and Siddaramaiah had reached an agreement with the Congress high command’s involvement, and both would adhere to it.
