Chirag Paswan will run in the Bihar elections “if it benefits the party,” supports Nitish Kumar for Chief Minister.

Chirag Paswan will run in the Bihar elections "if it benefits the party," supports Nitish Kumar for Chief Minister.
Union Minister and president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan stated on Monday (June 2) that he is ready to run in the upcoming Bihar elections if his candidacy enhances his party’s standing and “strike rate.”

He added that there is no open position for the chief minister of the eastern state, as the current chief minister, Nitish Kumar, will continue his leadership after the elections, which are expected to take place in October-November this year.

Paswan was speaking to reporters at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur upon arriving to join an event hosted by a regional news channel.
In response to questions regarding his participation in the Bihar assembly elections, Paswan remarked, “I’ve previously stated that I don’t envision myself in central politics for an extended time. My motivation for entering politics revolves around Bihar and its people. I maintain a vision – Bihar First, Bihari First.”

“In this context, I aspire for Bihar to be on the same level as developed states. After serving as an MP for the third time, I’ve recognized that it may be challenging to work for Bihar while remaining in Delhi,” he emphasized, noting that he had informed his party of his intention to return to Bihar politics shortly.

Paswan mentioned that various parties have gained advantages when their national leaders have participated in state elections.

“The BJP has implemented this strategy multiple times by putting forward their MPs in assembly elections and has reaped the rewards. If my decision to enter the election process fortifies my party and boosts its strike rate (the percentage of seats won versus seats contested), then I will run. We achieved a 100% strike rate in the Lok Sabha elections, and I aspire for my strike rate to be similarly effective in the Bihar elections,” he stated.

When questioned about the chief ministerial candidate for the NDA in the Bihar elections, he replied, “There is no vacancy for the position of Bihar CM. Nitish Kumar will continue in his role after the elections.” The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is expected to convene a meeting of its executive members soon to officially propose that Paswan contest in the Bihar assembly elections.
