Camikara 3-Year-Old Becomes First Indian Rum to Secure Gold at Global Spirits Awards
India is not only recognized for its whiskies, single malts, or gins; it is also making its mark globally with rums. In a significant step for Indian rums to carve out their niche in the international market, Camikara 3YO, the nation’s first pure cane juice aged rum, has become the first Indian rum to win a gold medal at the Rum & Cachaça Masters Awards 2025, held in London. This accolade positions India among the elite premium rum producers and heralds a new era for spirits crafted in India.

The rum’s victory in a competition dominated by traditional heavyweights like Martinique, Jamaica, and Barbados dispels the long-held notion that Indian rums are merely affordable, molasses-based offerings devoid of sophistication.

“There was a time when Indian rum was absent from global discussions on premium spirits,” remarked Shalini Sharma, Head of Marketing at Piccadily Agro Industries, the creator of Camikara. “This achievement is not simply a medal; it’s a proud moment for India. Camikara was conceived with the belief that India can produce world-class spirits, deeply rooted in its unique heritage,” Sharma continued.

The Rum & Cachaça Masters, organized annually by The Spirits Business, is one of the most prestigious blind-tasting competitions for rum and cachaça globally. The 2025 edition featured a record number of entries from leading rum-producing countries, evaluated by a panel of industry specialists.

Camikara, which means ‘liquid gold’ in Sanskrit, has accomplished what was once deemed impossible: an Indian rum, crafted in the Rhum Agricole style, successfully competing on the global stage.

Camikara has revitalized India’s neglected legacy in sugarcane distillation. The brand’s success sets the stage for a new premium category within the Indian market and underscores the potential for Indian rums to be globally acclaimed.
