Blue Mountain Community Foundation

The Blue Mountain Community Foundation announced it has a new communication and grants director: Kate Morrison.

Morrison previously served as the executive director of Trilogy Recovery Community and has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit world. In her new role, she will oversee grant programs and lead the organization’s communications.

Kol Medina, BMCF’s president and CEO, wrote in a news release he is thrilled for Morrison to join the team.

“Her vision and skillset will help us strengthen connections with our donors, partners and the broader community, while growing our grantmaking programs to be even more helpful to local nonprofits,” he wrote.

Safeway Foundation

The Safeway Foundation donated $5,000 each to the Blue Mountain Action Council and the Ducky Derby at the Wednesday, May 7, event signaling the banner flip from Albertsons to Safeway at 450 N. Wilbur.

BMAC experienced a 200% increase in demand for services following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The organization provides community services such as rent support, veteran housing, access to free or discounted food, and pro bono legal aid referrals.

Milton-Freewater Chamber Downtown Alliance

Milton-Freewater soccer teams walked away as winners of the Milton-Freewater Chamber Downtown Alliance’s annual Cinco de Mayo Soccer Tournament.

Youth and adult teams from Milton-Freewater, Walla Walla, Pendleton and La Grande came together to participate in the tournament.

First place and second place teams each received $500 cash prizes.

The Milton-Freewater Youth Team took first place in the Youth Division Championship.

In the Adult Division Championship, both teams were Milton-Freewater based, with the Warriors in first place and the Academy FC in second place.
