BJP Leader Asserts 44 MLAs Prepared to Establish New Government in Manipur
A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA asserted that 44 MLAs are prepared to establish a new government in Manipur. This statement followed a meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam stated, “Forty-four MLAs are ready to form a government in accordance with the people’s wishes. We have communicated this to the governor. We also deliberated on potential solutions for the issue,” he expressed.

“The governor acknowledged what we shared and will take steps in the best interests of the populace,” he continued.
Currently, the 60-member assembly consists of 59 MLAs, with one seat unoccupied due to a legislator’s death. In the BJP-led coalition, there are 32 Meitei MLAs, three Manipuri Muslim MLAs, and nine Naga legislators, totaling 44.

The Congress party holds five MLAs, all from the Meitei community. The remaining 10 MLAs are Kukis—seven of whom were elected on a BJP ticket, two are from the Kuki Peoples’ Alliance, and one is an Independent.

On February 7, former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned following months of unrest in the northeastern state.

Singh’s leadership faced increasing pressure amid the ongoing turmoil, which included ethnic violence that has affected the region in recent months.

Manipur has experienced considerable unrest lately, featuring violent confrontations among various ethnic groups, resulting in widespread security concerns.
