BJP Asserts US Tariffs Will Barely Affect India's Economy
Amid ongoing tensions due to tariffs implemented by US President Donald Trump, the Bharatiya Janata Party asserted on Saturday (April 12) that the Indian economy is self-sufficient and will likely experience only a minimal impact.

During a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam emphasized that the Mudra Yojana has significantly aided the MSME sector.

“There is nervousness globally regarding Trump’s tariffs. Nevertheless, the Indian economy stands resilient, and the repercussions will be very limited. It will absorb this challenge and leverage it as an opportunity to advance.
“Analyzing high-frequency data clearly illustrates the robustness of the Indian economy—evident through strong capital expenditure and ongoing growth momentum,” Islam stated.

The spokesperson noted that since the BJP assumed power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been dedicated to an economic transformation.

“One of his initial actions was to launch the Jan Dhan Yojana, aimed at integrating people into the banking system. Currently, over 53 crore individuals are part of this initiative, with around 70% being women.

“Subsequently, he introduced the Mudra Yojana, which has evolved into a global benchmark for supporting small enterprises and entrepreneurship,” he said. Islam pointed out that prior to 2014, the sector made up about 15% of the economy.

“Today, that figure has increased to 20%. Notably, 50% of Mudra loan accounts are owned by SC, ST, and OBC entrepreneurs, thus empowering those who have historically been marginalized,” he added.

Islam also criticized the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu for allegedly disrespectful comments attributed to its Forest Minister K Ponmudi.

“The DMK in Tamil Nadu has been thoroughly exposed. Their Forest Minister, K Ponmudi, has insulted both Vaishnavites and Shaivites, making derogatory remarks about Hindi speakers by referring to them as ‘pani puri sellers.’ He has shown consistent disrespect towards Sanatan Dharma.

“Despite such overtly offensive statements, the party has taken no action against him,” he remarked.

However, when Amit Shah announced the BJP-AIADMK alliance, the DMK promptly dismissed a minister for much less, he noted.

“We firmly demand the immediate removal of K Ponmudi from his ministerial position,” Islam declared.
