Purba Medinipur was one of the districts that experienced a higher influx of filings, with three candidates each submitting their nomination papers for the Nandakumar, Mahisadal, and Nandigram seats.
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari from the BJP submitted his nomination papers in Nandigram.
In northern Bengal, constituencies such as Mekliganj, Mathabhanga, and Cooch Behar Uttar reported two nominations each, whereas several seats in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Darjeeling districts had no submissions on the first day.
A number of constituencies in Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Bankura, and Paschim Bardhaman also recorded zero nominations throughout the day.
Polling will take place for the state’s 294-member assembly in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
April 6 is the final date for submitting nomination papers in the first phase. The scrutiny of these documents will occur on April 7, while April 9 marks the last date for withdrawing candidature.
