BCCL Sees Decline in Q1 Coal Production; June Coking Coal Output Decreases by 12.5%
Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) experienced a year-on-year decrease of 12.5% in coking coal production, totaling 2.17 million tonnes (mt) in June, while raw coal offtake remained relatively stable at 2.69 mt, as reported in the company’s provisional monthly production metrics.

Overall raw coal production dropped 11.8% YoY to 2.29 mt for the month, compared to 2.60 mt in the previous year. Non-coking coal production recorded 0.12 mt, marking a 2.6% increase from last year.

Production from opencast mines fell by 12.3% YoY to 2.24 mt, while underground mining saw a rise of 24.3%, reaching 0.05 mt. Washed coking coal production remained relatively constant at 0.14 mt, down 0.8% compared to a year prior.
Overburden removal decreased by 16.1% to 10.84 million cubic metres, while raw coal offtake was nearly the same at 2.69 mt, when compared to the same month last year.

In the April-June 2026 period, BCCL’s raw coal output dropped 27.5% YoY to 6.56 mt, and coking coal production fell by 27.9% to 6.21 mt. Raw coal offtake during the quarter declined by 14.8% to 7.65 mt, with overburden removal down 35.5% to 31.88 million cubic metres.
