Amit Shah announces that Delhi’s Yamuna riverfront will replicate Sabarmati, promises timely completion.

BJP considers independent run in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune amidst deadlock in Mahayuti seat-sharing talks.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (May 1) announced that the Yamuna riverfront project in the national capital will be developed similarly to the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat and is expected to be completed within a specified timeline.

He made these remarks at an event commemorating the 65th foundation day celebrations of Gujarat and Maharashtra at the developed floodplain of the Yamuna, Asita.

Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya, Delhi LG VK Saxena, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, and ministers from Gujarat also attended the event.
Shah commended the Lieutenant Governor’s initiatives to clean the banks of the Yamuna and stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for transforming the area is making significant progress.

“I commend the LG’s efforts to clean the Yamuna banks and remove waste. PM Modi has introduced a recent plan to clean the Yamuna from Yamunotri to Prayagraj and to establish a riverfront in Delhi.

Work has already begun on creating a riverfront along the Yamuna, akin to the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat. I am confident this plan will succeed and be completed on schedule,” Shah remarked. He stressed that cleaning the Yamuna River is a matter of national significance, not just local importance.

“The BJP is dedicated to executing this project within a specific timeline. Cleaning the Yamuna is crucial for the nation’s people. This goal will definitely be achieved,” he asserted.

The home minister’s statements are part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance India’s urban infrastructure and river systems. Previous attempts to clean the river have faced challenges due to pollution and encroachments.

During the event, Shah also paid tribute to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, noting that the foundation day celebrations were intentionally kept simple in their honor.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Shah emphasized the peaceful division of the Bombay state in 1960, which resulted in the formation of Gujarat and Maharashtra, calling both states “economic pillars of the country.” “Vibrant Gujarat and Magnificent Maharashtra are foundational pillars of development. Their contributions to industry, culture, and infrastructure are substantial,” he stated.

Shah mentioned that while he was born and married in Maharashtra, Gujarat is his “karmabhoomi,” or place of work. The event also featured Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterating her government’s commitment to celebrating the cultural diversity of the capital.

“Delhi houses lakhs of individuals from every state, making it truly a ‘Mini India’. Residents from Gujarat and Maharashtra also live in Delhi. I want to emphasize that Delhi belongs to all of you, and the Delhi government will always work to provide everything from respect to quality education and opportunities,” she expressed. Additionally, she noted that the development of Delhi encompasses contributions from people across all states.
