Vijaypat Singhania, former chairman of Raymond Group, has died.
Air Commodore (Dr.) Vijaypat Singhania, a Padma Bhushan awardee and former Chairman of the Raymond Group, passed away peacefully in Mumbai on Saturday evening, according to a statement from the company. His final rites will take place on March 29, 2026.

Born on October 4, 1938, Singhania served as Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group from 1980 to 2000, transforming it into a prominent name in India’s textile and apparel industry. During his tenure, the company diversified into several segments, showcasing a broad industrial vision.

In addition to his business achievements, Singhania had an esteemed career in aviation. He logged over 5,000 flying hours and reached numerous milestones, including a solo microlight flight from London to New Delhi in 1988 and taking part in an around-the-world air race in 1994.
In 2005, at the age of 67, he set a world record by ascending to approximately 69,000 feet in a hot air balloon, a milestone recognized by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. His contributions to aviation were acknowledged when he received the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2001.

In 2006, the Government of India bestowed upon him the Padma Bhushan, while the Indian Air Force had previously granted him the honorary title of Air Commodore. He also held the position of Sheriff of Mumbai and led the governing council of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Singhania is survived by his wife Ashadevi Singhania and their children Madhupati Singhania, Shephali Ruia, and Gautam Hari Singhania.
