Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has also highlighted concerns over the operational crisis at IndiGo Airlines, noting the significant passenger distress and labeling it a “shame”.
She stated, “IndiGo Airlines’ operations have been severely affected, resulting in enormous passenger distress. I have consistently voiced concerns regarding the duopoly dominating the air travel industry, which causes higher fares, inadequate infrastructure, and flight cancellations. It’s a disgrace, and I hope the aviation minister will deliver a suo motu statement on this matter in Parliament.”

In its statement, the airline attributed these disruptions to a variety of factors, including minor technical issues, changes in the winter schedule, adverse weather conditions, significant airport congestion, and new crew rostering regulations, according to News18.
“A range of unexpected operational challenges, including minor technical glitches, seasonal schedule changes, bad weather, increased congestion within the aviation network, and updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations) have negatively impacted our operations in ways that were difficult to foresee,” the airline remarked.
IndiGo has made careful adjustments to its schedules over the next 48 hours to restore normalcy, offering passengers affected by the disruptions alternate flights or refunds.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into the widespread disruptions and has requested IndiGo to provide details regarding the situation and its action plan to address the ongoing delays and cancellations.
“The DGCA is currently examining the situation and coordinating with the airline to mitigate cancellations and delays, aiming to minimize passenger inconvenience… IndiGo has been instructed to report to DGCA Headquarters, providing details on the current situation and strategies to alleviate ongoing delays and cancellations,” the DGCA stated.
The aviation regulator noted that IndiGo canceled 1,232 flights in November, with 755 cancellations linked to the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) regulations implemented on November 1. The airline’s on-time performance dropped to 67.7% in November, down from 84.1% in October, as reported by the DGCA.
