All Premium subscribers can now publish Articles.

The update was shared by X’s product head, Nikita Bier, who mentioned that this rollout will commence within the next week. Previously, Articles were restricted to Premium+ users and business or organization accounts.
Ladies and gentlemen: Over the next week, we’ll be launching several updates for our creators & power users.
To start, we’re making X Articles available to all Premium subscribers. We’ve seen some fantastic articles trending recently — and we want to…— Nikita Bier (@nikitabier) January 7, 2026
“To start, we’re making X Articles available to all Premium subscribers,” Bier emphasized, noting that recent Articles had garnered significant engagement.
This shift reduces the distinction between X’s paid subscription tiers. In India, Premium is priced at ₹ 470 per month, while Premium+ costs ₹ 3000. Previously, Articles helped justify the higher price point. With this feature now accessible to the lower tier, the value distinction becomes less apparent.
What Articles Are
X introduced Articles in March 2024 as a platform for users to share long-form content beyond typical character limits. The tool accommodates headings, formatting, embedded media, and hyperlinks. Articles are displayed on user profiles under a dedicated tab and remain visible based on audience settings defined by the author.

The format is tailored for creators, publishers, and brands wanting to post essays, newsletters, or explainers directly on X instead of redirecting to external websites.
Access remains limited for users with the ‘Basic’ subscription. Free accounts are unable to publish Articles but can access and read them.
Reactions from Creators and Developers
The announcement reignited critiques regarding X’s API pricing. WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg expressed a desire to facilitate cross-posting from WordPress to Articles but noted that API costs posed a challenge. His statement sparked broader discussions among developers about pricing models and access to the platform.
Would love to support cross-posting @WordPress to Articles but can’t because of API costs.

Some users proposed a tiered or freemium API model, arguing it would enable smaller sites to engage while charging heavier users at a higher rate.
There should be a per site freemium API tier… most sites would incur no cost because they simply don’t post that frequently.
The larger users would help support the smaller ones.Individual hosts could pay extra for their premium clients.
There’s significant opportunity here, @nikitabier

Creators also raised concerns regarding the performance of Articles within X’s algorithm. Some users indicated that Articles struggle to achieve visibility compared to native posts in the timeline due to their click-through requirement. Others questioned if Articles receive any preferential treatment in rankings, or if their visibility is solely dependent on account size.
Will this issue be addressed? This occurs frequently for smaller accounts. The algorithms X uses now seem to prioritize numbers over substance, which is rather disappointing.
The X algorithm significantly favors larger accounts, viral content, highly engaging subjects, and sensational posts.— Ceredwyn F. Holt (@terraluxe) January 10, 2026
What’s Next for Premium Subscribers
With Articles becoming available to the lower tier, Premium+ users are now questioning what sets apart this higher-priced subscription.
X has not yet revealed any new features for Premium+ or any adjustments to its pricing structure.
This update lowers the cost of long-form publishing on the platform, altering how X positions its paid offerings moving forward.
