Donald Trump cautioned that the United States would respond strongly if Iran executes protesters, severing discussions with Iranian officials and promising Iranian citizens that assistance is forthcoming amid increasing protest fatalities.

US President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. would enact “very strong action” if the Iranian authorities began executing protesters, though he did not specify what those actions would entail.

“I have not heard about any executions. If they do proceed with that, you’ll witness some significant developments… We will take very strong action if such a thing occurs,” Trump informed CBS News during an interview.

He mentioned that he is halting any potential talks with Iranian representatives in light of the crackdown on protests and reassured Iranian citizens that “help is on its way.”

While Trump did not provide specifics regarding the nature of the assistance, his remarks follow a statement from the Republican president just days earlier, indicating that Iran is interested in negotiating with Washington after his warning to retaliate against the Islamic Republic, where the death toll from widespread protests has reportedly exceeded 2,000, according to human rights observers.
