Modi Advocates for Responsible and Inclusive AI as Indian Start-ups Shine Before Global Summit

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a roundtable with prominent Indian artificial intelligence start-ups, emphasizing the government’s goal to establish India as a global center for ethical, inclusive, and affordable AI.

The gathering, held at the prime minister’s residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, included representatives from 12 AI start-ups chosen for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge, a part of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 that will take place in the country next month.

The participating companies showcased innovations across various sectors, including Indian-language foundation models, multilingual large language models, speech-to-text and text-to-video tools, 3D generative content for e-commerce and marketing, engineering simulations, materials research, advanced data analytics, and healthcare diagnostics.
Leaders from these start-ups emphasized the rapid advancement of India’s AI ecosystem, stating that the global “center of gravity” for AI innovation and deployment is increasingly shifting toward India. They highlighted what they termed a strong and supportive environment for AI development, positioning the country prominently on the global technology map.

In his remarks to the founders, Modi underscored the transformative power of artificial intelligence and noted that India is poised to significantly influence the global technology landscape through the forthcoming summit. He referred to start-ups and AI entrepreneurs as the “co-architects of India’s future,” recognizing the nation’s potential for both innovation and large-scale deployment.

The prime minister called for the creation of Indian AI models that embody the ethos of “Made in India, Made for the World,” while encouraging the promotion of indigenous content and regional languages. He also stressed the importance of developing AI systems in India that are ethical, unbiased, and transparent, with robust safeguards for data privacy.

Modi highlighted that global trust in India is one of the nation’s key strengths and urged start-ups to strive for international leadership, establishing India as a frontrunner in affordable, inclusive, and sustainable AI innovation. He assured participants of comprehensive government support for the success of their AI initiatives.

The roundtable was attended by executives from companies such as Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gnani, Intellihealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra, and Zenteiq. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also in attendance.
