This purchase increases Alaska Airlines’ total 737 MAX order book to 174 airplanes. The 737-10 aircraft will be utilized on high-density routes and will aid in renewing and growing the airline’s single-aisle fleet. This model is expected to bolster Alaska Airlines’ modernization strategy and future expansion by allowing the airline to serve more passengers on more routes at a lower cost per seat.
“This fleet investment builds on the strong foundation Alaska has established to support consistent, scalable, and sustained growth, and serves as an essential element in executing our Alaska Accelerate strategic plan. These aircraft will fuel our expansion to additional destinations worldwide and ensure that our guests travel on the newest, most fuel-efficient, and state-of-the-art planes.

We are immensely proud to partner with Boeing, a neighbor from the Pacific Northwest and a company that exemplifies American innovation and manufacturing,” stated Alaska Air Group CEO and President Ben Minicucci.
The order includes five 787 Dreamliners to support Alaska Airlines’ long-haul growth strategy. These widebody aircraft will be used to expand the airline’s international network, servicing routes to and from Europe and Asia. The 787 Dreamliner is known for fuel efficiency, long-range capabilities, and passenger comfort, thanks to its advanced aerodynamics, composite structure, and modern cabin design.
This announcement marks the 60th anniversary of the partnership between Boeing and Alaska Airlines, which began with the delivery of a Boeing 727 to the airline. Alaska Airlines currently operates 248 Boeing 737 aircraft. The introduction of the 737-10 is anticipated to enhance network and fleet flexibility while maintaining compatibility with the airline’s existing Next-Generation 737 and 737 MAX fleet.

The Seattle-based carrier intends to leverage the expanded widebody fleet to enhance its global network and service at least 12 international destinations over the next few years.
