Mumbai's Top-Tier Marina Gets Green Light at ₹887 Crore to Enhance Maritime Tourism and Generate 2,000 Jobs
The Central government has sanctioned a plan to develop a premier marina in Mumbai Harbour, with an estimated expenditure of 887 crore, according to an official announcement made on December 18. The initiative will utilize a hybrid development model, wherein the Mumbai Port Authority is set to invest approximately 470 crore for the construction of essential marina infrastructure on an EPC basis, while a private entity will handle the development of onshore facilities, entailing an investment of about 417 crore.

The ministry has sanctioned the port authority’s financial commitment, and tenders have been issued, with bid submissions closing on December 29, 2025, as stated in the announcement.

Spread across nearly 12 hectares of water area, the marina will have the capability to accommodate 424 yachts, each measuring up to 30 metres in length.
The marine infrastructure will feature an approach trestle, a piled breakwater, service platforms, pontoons, and gangways engineered to facilitate safe and efficient yacht operations.

The announcement highlighted that the project is anticipated to create over 2,000 jobs in marina operations, cruise services, hospitality, and related sectors, while promoting private sector engagement in coastal infrastructure.

It also aims to enhance public access to the waterfront and bolster Mumbai’s standing as a prominent hub for maritime tourism and cruise activities.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, mentioned that the project will develop world-class infrastructure, make the waterfront accessible to the public, foster private investment, and generate new job prospects.
