Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin Intensifies Criticism of Central Government, Reveals Formation of High-Level Committee for State Autonomy
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin claimed on Tuesday, April 15, that the Centre was gradually undermining state rights, leading to the formation of a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge focused on state autonomy.

The high-level committee, led by former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph, will extensively investigate the dynamics between the Union and state governments to safeguard state autonomy.

It is expected to present its interim report in January 2026, with a final report and recommendations to follow within two years, as stated by Stalin in the Assembly.

The committee includes former bureaucrat Ashok Vardhan Shetty and former vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission M Naganathan as members.

The Chief Minister noted, “The committee will analyze, in accordance with the law, the transfer of those subjects that have shifted from the State List to the Concurrent List,” mentioning that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) falls outside state jurisdiction.
