India promises Sri Lanka and Nepal to facilitate the evacuation of their citizens from Iran.
On Saturday (June 21), India assured Sri Lanka and Nepal of its commitment to evacuate their nationals stranded in Iran amid the ongoing conflict with Israel. Sri Lanka expressed its gratitude, stating that this “act of solidarity exemplifies the strong and enduring partnership between India and Sri Lanka.”

“Sri Lanka conveys its heartfelt thanks to the Government of India for the prompt assistance in evacuating Sri Lankan nationals from Iran along with Indian citizens,” the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka announced on X on June 21.

Previously, the Indian mission in Iran had communicated its willingness to assist in the evacuation of nationals from Nepal and Sri Lanka following appeals from their governments.
“In response to requests from the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy’s evacuation operations in Iran will also include citizens of those countries,” indicated the Indian Embassy.

The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry encouraged its citizens in Iran to reach out to the Indian Embassy in Tehran if they wish to depart the country.

“The government of Sri Lanka has coordinated with the government of India to facilitate the departure of Sri Lankans wishing to leave Iran by accommodating them on flights,” the ministry stated in an official announcement.

According to the Foreign Ministry, fewer than 100 Sri Lankan nationals remain in Iran, whereas approximately 20,000 are working in Israel.
