Gautam Gambhir set to rejoin Indian team on Tuesday for the Test match against England in Leeds.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, who returned home last week for a family emergency, is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday ahead of the opening Test against England at Leeds, which begins on June 20. Gambhir had to rush back after his mother experienced a heart attack and was hospitalized, but she is now in stable condition.

In his absence, the team’s preparations were managed by assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, and bowling coach Morne Morkel. Gambhir also missed the intra-squad match between India and India A in Beckenham, which wrapped up on Sunday.

India is aiming for their first series win in England since 2007, with the first Test set to kick off in Leeds on June 20.
“There are two perspectives on this tour. One is that we are without our three most experienced players, or we have this incredible chance to achieve something significant for the country,” Gambhir stated to BCCI.tv, referencing the recent retirements of Ashwin, Rohit, and Kohli.
The former opener expressed that he can sense a “passion and commitment” within the current team, led by Shubman Gill.

“Looking around this group, I see the hunger, passion, and commitment to accomplish something special. If we are willing to make sacrifices, step out of our comfort zones, and fight hard—not just each day, but every session, every hour, and every ball—I believe we can have a memorable tour,” he added.

Put ourselves under pressure at nets: Gill

Skipper Gill encouraged his teammates to challenge themselves at practice so that they will be better prepared when the series begins.

“Let’s make every net session meaningful. Let’s apply a bit of pressure to ourselves. When we step out there, it’s not just about surviving; it’s about discovering our game and figuring out how we will perform under pressure—whether as bowlers or batters,” he remarked.
