Emerging Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav showcased an outstanding performance to secure the silver medal. Simultaneously, sprinter Animesh Kujur and hurdler Vithya Ramraj contributed a bronze each to the nation’s tally at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Yadav achieved a personal best by launching his javelin to 85.16m, finishing just behind reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, who won gold with a top throw of 86.40m.

Hailing from a farming family in Khekra village near Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, Yadav’s previous personal best was 84.39m.
Yashvir Singh also made his mark, recording a personal best of 82.57m to secure fifth place.

Earlier, Kujur kicked off India’s medal tally on the final day with a bronze in the men’s 200m final.

Kujur delivered an exceptional performance, establishing a new national record of 20.32 seconds.

The 21-year-old surpassed his earlier best of 20.40s, set earlier this year during the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition.

Japan’s Towa Uzawa clinched gold with a time of 20.12s, while Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz Abdu I Atafi secured silver in 20.31s.

Asian Games medallist Vithya Ramraj also made his presence felt, navigating the 400m hurdles to earn a podium finish.

The 26-year-old Tamil Nadu athlete clocked 56.46s, landing him on the podium.

China’s Mo Jiadie took gold in 55.31s, narrowly ahead of Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Adekoya, who finished second in 55.32s. Anu Raghavan, the other Indian competitor in the event, placed seventh with a time of 57.46s.

In the women’s 200m final, Jyoti Yarraji finished fifth with a time of 23.47s, while Nithya Gandhe secured seventh place in 23.90s. Yarraji had previously won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles earlier that week.
