Martha Stewart Reveals Her Go-To Travel Destination For Foodies

There are a few people whose food and travel advice you just listen to, no questions asked and Martha Stewart is definitely high on the list. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the lifestyle legend shared her current favorite place to visit: Japan.

“I could probably eat a fish tartare every day,” Stewart said. “I would probably change the fish from day to day, like between fluke and flounder and tuna and hake. Anything ultra fresh. That would be very good.”

No surprise there. I mean, she did build an empire on quality and taste. Japan’s famously fresh seafood and attention to detail make it a dream destination for anyone who lives for a good meal, including moi.

But while Martha’s travel list is packed with incredible places, she’s just as happy staying close to home, specifically at her summer house. “I love being at the summer house and doing day trips from there, exploring the area,” she said.

One of her favorite ways to spend time? Getting into the garden. Right now, she’s deep into growing kiku mums. You know, those giant Japanese chrysanthemums that are as dramatic as they are delicate. “I’ve just gotten my cuttings and they’re rooted,” she said. “This is a very big, long process, and you have to really study it before you can be a master. So I’m working on that.”

Only Martha could casually turn flower-growing into a full-on challenge. But that’s kind of the point, right? Whether she’s eating her way through Tokyo or nurturing blooms in her backyard, she’s always learning something new.

Might be time to take a page out of Martha’s book and start planning a garden of my own, kiku mums not required, but definitely encouraged.
