The Baltimore Orioles have fired manager Brandon Hyde after their 15-28 start to the 2025 season and last-place standing in the American League East, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Third base coach Tony Mansolino will take over as interim manager. He’s been on Baltimore’s coaching staff since the 2021 season.
“The poor start to our season is ultimately my responsibility,” Orioles general manager Mike Elias said in a statement. “Part of that responsibility is pursuing difficult changes in order to set a different course for the future. I want to thank Brandon for his hard work, dedication and passion after all these years, and for returning the team to the playoffs and winning an AL East championship.”
With a young, talent-rich roster, the Orioles broke out for 101 wins during the 2023 season (for which Hyde was named AL Manager of the Year) and appeared to be the new power in the AL East that could challenge the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the division. Since then, however, Baltimore has fallen short of those expectations.

Last season, the Orioles won 91 games and finished three games behind the Yankees. But this season, they have arguably been the most disappointing team in MLB, off to a 15-28 start that has them deep in last place, 10.5 games out of first place.
Baltimore has lost four consecutive games following Friday’s loss to the Washington Nationals and 10 of their past 12.
Hyde’s dismissal comes two weeks after Elias said that he was “very confident” in his manager, who was in his seventh season. Elias also insisted that Hyde had not lost the support of the players.
