“This evening, I informed Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman that the State Department has taken into consideration the stable conditions on the ground and has deemed that Bangladesh is safer for travel,” Gor stated in a post on X.

He noted that the overall travel advisory had been downgraded from Level 3 to Level 2, mentioning that certain areas still had extra restrictions and should be avoided, calling this a positive development.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs remarked that the updated advisory indicated a growing US confidence in the country’s security and stability.
It acknowledged the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for making “visible progress in reinforcing law and order” over the last six months, stating that the downgrade highlighted the positive trend in the US-Bangladesh relationship.

The advisory from the State Department, released on the same day, pointed out risks including unrest, crime, terrorism, and kidnapping, advising travelers to steer clear of all gatherings, including peaceful protests, as these could escalate unexpectedly.
It noted muggings, burglaries, assaults, and drug trafficking as prevalent crimes in major cities, although it mentioned no specific evidence of foreigners being targeted. The advisory maintained a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” warning for the Chittagong Hill Tracts, citing kidnappings, separatist violence, and incidents involving IEDs and shootings, as well as for regions near the Myanmar border and refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Gor arrived in Bangladesh for his inaugural visit, discussing with Rahman efforts to enhance the US-Bangladesh relationship, describing “numerous positive developments.”
