India, Pakistan Secure Direct Spots in Asian Games Cricket Quarterfinals
Reigning champions India and Pakistan have secured direct spots in the quarterfinals of both the men’s and women’s cricket events at this year’s Asian Games.

The Indian women’s team will kick off their tournament against Japan, while the men’s opponent will be determined after the preliminary rounds. In the semifinals, the women are set to face either Bangladesh or China.

The men’s cricket tournament is scheduled to commence on September 24 and will wrap up by October 1. There is a possibility that the men’s team may meet Pakistan in the semifinals.
The women’s competition will take place from September 17 to 22. A potential showdown with Pakistan in the women’s final cannot be ruled out.

In the men’s tournament, a total of 10 teams will participate. The preliminary round includes Afghanistan, Japan, and Nepal in Group A, while Group B consists of Hong Kong China, Malaysia, and Oman.

Both cricket competitions will be played in T20 format at Korogi Athletic Park in Aichi prefecture.

Shreyas Iyer will lead the Indian men’s team, while the Indian women’s team will be captained by Harmanpreet Kaur.

Cricket returns to the Asiad for the fourth time, having previously been included in the 2010 Guangzhou, 2014 Incheon, and 2023 Hangzhou Games.
