At 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Is the Youngest Player to Score a Half-Century in Men’s International Cricket

India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest player ever to score a half-century in men’s international cricket during the opening T20I against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

The 15-year-old achieved this remarkable milestone in merely 18 deliveries, dismantling Zimbabwe’s bowling attack while pursuing a target of 126, thus surpassing Nepal’s Kushal Malla to set a new world record.

Sooryavanshi, at 15 years and 118 days old, broke Malla’s prior record, which had been established when the Nepalese batter was 15 years and 340 days old.
The left-handed batsman’s electrifying innings featured four boundaries and four sixes, propelling India to a strong start in their chase after they had dominated the bowling earlier in the match.

Choosing to bowl first, India managed to restrict Zimbabwe to 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs with a disciplined bowling performance, setting the stage for Sooryavanshi to shine with his explosive batting.

This extraordinary innings marks yet another milestone in the young cricketer’s swiftly ascending career.

India is currently on a tour of Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series, and Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking performance has offered a perfect kick-off to the visitors’ campaign. The second and third T20Is are scheduled for July 25 and July 26 at the same location.

The Men in Blue clinched the match by seven wickets, granting skipper Shreyas Iyer his inaugural victory as India’s T20I captain.
