The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Brar violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses unsafe throwing of the ball at or near a player.
The incident took place during the eighth over of England’s innings when Brar, while fielding, picked up the ball and threw it toward the batter in a manner deemed inappropriate and dangerous by the ICC.
India ultimately won the match by six wickets, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Brar acknowledged the offence and accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Richie Richardson, negating the need for a formal disciplinary hearing.
Along with the official warning, the right-arm pacer has also received one demerit point added to his disciplinary record. This marks Brar’s first offence within a 24-month timeframe.
The charge was brought forward by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, as well as third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 offences can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, alongside one or two demerit points.
Despite this disciplinary issue, Brar remains eligible for selection as India aims to secure the ODI series in the upcoming two matches against England.
