Trump has warned Iran of intensified strikes, as the US carried out a second wave of attacks aimed at undermining Iran’s navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, effectively ending a ceasefire.
During a press conference aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump threatened to retaliate against Iran with strikes 20 times more forceful for each attack, as reported by Al Jazeera.
When asked about the possibility of a full-scale military action against Iran, Trump stated, “I don’t know. We have many ways we can win, but we’ve already won militarily.”
Today, the United States executed a second wave of attacks on Iran following President Trump’s declaration that “harder” actions would be taken.
The US Central Command confirmed the strikes via X, clarifying that the aim was to further undermine Iran’s freedom of navigation in the vital Strait of Hormuz.
This latest round of attacks follows previous retaliatory actions by the US against cities on Iran’s southern coast, targeting the nation’s defense and aerospace military capabilities.
These retaliatory strikes were initiated in response to Iran’s alleged assault on a tanker utilizing the US-approved Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz, although Iran has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
This series of attacks signifies the conclusion of a ceasefire agreed upon by both nations after signing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. It also led to the US lifting the temporary suspension of sanctions imposed on Iranian crude oil.
The latest events unfold during the funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameinei, who was killed along with some family members. Khameinei’s remains were transported to the Iraqi city of Najaf yesterday and are scheduled for burial in Mashhad, Iran today.
