Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Prepared for India, but Ten Doeschate Suggests He Needs to Wait for His Debut

Kumar Sangakkara: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will manage attention effectively; he isn't swayed by fame or glamour.
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate believes that teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is prepared for the international stage, but emphasized that the 15-year-old must earn his place just like any other player on the national team.

Sooryavanshi’s omission from the playing XI became a significant topic of discussion after India’s surprising 2-0 T20I series defeat against Ireland, with the second match concluding in a narrow one-run loss on Sunday.

“He is definitely ready for international cricket; there’s no doubt about that. However, Sanju Samson is someone who played a crucial role in our World Cup victory three months ago,” Ten Doeschate remarked following the match.
The assistant coach reiterated that the management aimed to preserve continuity and support players who have previously performed well on the international front.

“It’s vital to instill confidence in our players and communicate that we want to give individuals a sustained run in the team,” he explained.

“We are all thrilled to see Vaibhav in action, but he must undergo the same process. There’s no doubt about his talent.”

His remarks were consistent with those made by batting coach Sitanshu Kotak prior to the series, who also underscored that Sooryavanshi would need to await his chance despite significant calls for his inclusion.

The left-handed opener has emerged as one of India’s most promising young talents following an outstanding IPL season, where he topped the tournament’s run charts with 776 runs at a strike rate exceeding 230. He was also awarded both the Most Valuable Player and the Emerging Player of the Tournament.

As India prepares for a T20I series in England starting on July 1 in Chester-le-Street, speculation regarding his international debut is expected to grow.

If he is chosen for the tour, Sooryavanshi will set the record as India’s youngest men’s international cricketer, surpassing the mark established by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16.
