PM Modi Scheduled to Visit Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 8-11 for Collaboration in Trade, Technology, and Strategic Alliances
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 8 to 11, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The tour aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in maritime affairs, trade, technology, and strategic partnerships.

The trip will commence in Indonesia on July 8 and 9, followed by Australia on July 10, and conclude in New Zealand on July 11.

Engagements in Indonesia and Australia

In Indonesia, Modi’s activities will be primarily based in Jakarta. He will also visit Yogyakarta to explore the Prambanan Temple complex.
The MEA noted that India and Indonesia will engage in conservation efforts at the temple as part of their cultural collaboration.

This visit further signifies India’s commitment to the eastern maritime region of the Indian Ocean under its Act East policy.

On July 10, Modi is scheduled to be in Melbourne for the third India-Australia Annual Summit.

The previous summit, held in 2023, focused on collaborations in defence, trade and investments, education, skills, renewable energy, space, and sports.

The agenda is anticipated to cover critical minerals, cybersecurity, supply chain resilience, emerging technologies, and other facets of bilateral cooperation.

New Zealand Visit Following FTA

On July 11, Modi will head to New Zealand for discussions with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years.

Prior to this visit, Luxon expressed his excitement in a post on X, stating he was “delighted” to host Modi during his inaugural official visit to New Zealand.

He emphasized that India is among the world’s largest economies and highlighted the progress of the two countries’ relationship through the New Zealand-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed in April.

Luxon indicated that the agreement will enhance opportunities for exporting goods and services to India, thereby supporting jobs and economic activity in New Zealand.

This visit follows the signing of the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement in April, after nine months of negotiations.

The agreement outlines tariff elimination on Indian exports to New Zealand and includes provisions for investment, services, digital trade, and government procurement, as well as measures for small businesses and women-led enterprises.

Both nations have stated that the agreement aims to boost bilateral trade and investment while reinforcing economic cooperation.
