Iranian Soccer Team Leaves Appreciation Message in LA Locker Room Following Draw with Belgium
The Iranian soccer team expressed their gratitude in a message left in their SoFi Stadium locker room on Sunday, June 21. They thanked Los Angeles for its warm hospitality during the FIFA World Cup and noted they are departing with dignity after a 0-0 draw with Belgium that kept their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages alive.

Los Angeles has been the host for both of Iran’s Group G matches thus far, with the team returning to Tijuana, Mexico, between games.

Throughout the tournament, the team has been based in Tijuana, traveling to the US for their matches due to restrictions affecting their stay in the country, while several members of Iran’s team staff and officials have faced bans.
US officials have indicated that the squad’s travel arrangements will continue to be monitored, with ongoing discussions about potentially easing some restrictions.

“From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast,” stated the handwritten note released by Iran’s football federation.

“Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality.”

“We arrived in Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity.”

The note also acknowledged Iranian supporters who contributed their “heart, voice, and soul” for the team during the two matches and concluded with a message advocating for peace, respect, and friendship among all nations.

Additionally, the note referenced the US airstrike on a girl’s school in Minab at the onset of the Iran war, which tragically resulted in numerous casualties.

Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei has consistently criticized the travel restrictions placed on the team, highlighting the unique challenges they have faced compared to other teams.

Having drawn 2-2 with New Zealand in their opener at SoFi Stadium, Iran is set to play their final group match against Egypt in Seattle.
