In a post on X, Sarma referred to this development as “great news for Assam,” pointing out that it mirrors similar relaxations previously granted by Australia and Japan. He stated that this action showcases the increasing international confidence in the state’s safety and stability.
“Following Australia and Japan, EU member states have now updated their travel advisories to remove restrictive guidance for their citizens visiting the state,” Sarma expressed, thanking EU Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin for his assistance in facilitating the process.

As per state government sources, the updated advisory was conveyed by the EU Ambassador to the Chief Secretary of Assam and became effective on Friday.
Citizens from all 27 EU member countries can now travel to most areas of Assam without limitations. However, restrictions remain in place for three districts—Charaideo, Tinsukia, and Sivasagar—where the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) is still active.
The Chief Minister noted that this change follows discussions between the Assam government and international diplomatic missions after the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit held in 2025.
He emphasized that this shift is anticipated to enhance tourism, business activities, and exchanges between Assam and Europe. Sarma added that the state government will prioritize improving tourism infrastructure, including homestays, eco-tourism facilities, and digital services for travelers.
