This proposed two-week shutdown coincides with the Durga Pooja holiday season, significantly impacting Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism industry. The closure may also affect medical travel, compelling patients from Kashmir to take longer road trips for specialized treatments in metropolitan areas.

- From July to October, the runway is set to be closed for two days a week, likely Mondays and Tuesdays, which could result in flight cancellations.
- From October 1-16, a complete runway cessation is planned; regular flight operations will be halted during that timeframe. Travellers should check for the final NOTAM and airlines’ schedules as the date approaches.

The autumn season in Kashmir (September to October) is typically one of the most favored times for tourism. Weather conditions are generally favorable during this period, with daytime temperatures between 15°C and 25°C and relatively low rainfall compared to summer. Flight availability may be restricted, and prices might rise on operating days.
How to reach Srinagar if flights are affected
For those unable to fly directly to Srinagar, rail and road options are viable. Srinagar can be reached via the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) and National Highway 44, the primary road connection linking the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India.
