After PSG’s dramatic penalty shootout win against Arsenal earlier that evening in Budapest, Hungary, fans began their celebrations in Paris.
A procession of fans marched along the streets near the Arc de Triomphe, with some igniting flares and honking car horns. Approximately 20,000 individuals gathered on the Champs-Élysées, while police worked to manage the throngs.
The Paris police prefecture reported that smaller factions generated disturbances in multiple areas, leading to vandalism and fires. Several cars were set ablaze, and one police officer sustained injuries. Efforts to storm a police station in the affluent 8th Arrondissement were met with swift dispersal by law enforcement.
By 10 p.m., authorities had taken 45 individuals into custody.
The main ring road around Paris was momentarily blocked by the crowd before police intervened. Additionally, one bakery and a restaurant suffered damages.
Police also managed about 1,000 individuals who gathered near the PSG stadium in the 16th Arrondissement, clearing barricades made from bicycles.
In May of the previous year, after PSG’s inaugural title, 201 people were injured in Paris and police conducted over 500 arrests throughout France, prompting heightened security alerts with 8,000 officers deployed across the city.
